In the unseen

One year in Costa da Morte. Solitude and nature. An experience of radical transformation.

In the unseen. Largometraje 2026

Amparo, a visual artist, travels to Costa da Morte. Captivated by the beauty of migratory birds, a profound communion with nature, and the changing seascape, she decides to remain there and live alone for a year. We accompany her through her creative process:
working with the intangible, sustaining uncertainty, and allowing the project to become whatever it needs to be.

Director’s Notes

I like to think that every place holds stories, languages, and ways of seeing that already exist and are seeking to emerge.
As an artist and filmmaker, I try to create the conditions for “that” to appear, and to reach a state of mind from which I can listen to the material as it unfolds and allow the film to reveal itself.

When I first began to glimpse the possibility of this project, my immediate thought was:
How incredible would it be to spend a year alone in a small village in Costa da Morte, Galicia?

Winter and solitude proved harsh.

Near my village there was an observatory overlooking a marsh, where I could take refuge and observe the beauty and vulnerability of migratory birds.

When the weather allowed, I would go and watch the sea, reading it as a succession of emotional states: anger, fury, fear, melancholy, peace.
It was extraordinary to board the Chasula and experience the thrill of seeing and hearing a pair of whales nearby, as well as to witness the rescue of a dolphin whose snout had become trapped in one of the many discarded plastic nets in the sea.

I was seeking a process of transformation.
An experience of open solitude, one that would confront me simultaneously with transcendence and with the abyss.
